From photo to STL: a practical 3D printing workflow

A clear photo of one subject can become an STL you open in a slicer. PrintMesh generates the 3D mesh from the image. Slicing, supports, and the actual print still happen in Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Bambu Studio.

Start with one clear subject

Pick a JPG or PNG with one subject and a simple background. Product shots, character drawings, and toys work better than group photos or busy scenes. Face the subject toward the camera. You do not need Blender or CAD for this path.

Generate the mesh and preview it

Upload the image in PrintMesh and generate. The in-browser preview is a GLB. Rotate it. Look for missing chunks or a subject that blended into the background.

Quality uses credits: Standard, High, or Ultra. Higher quality is a finer mesh from the same image. It is not a promise that the file will slice cleanly.

Download STL and open it in your slicer

Download STL when you are ready to print. Open it in Cura, PrusaSlicer, or Bambu Studio. Check scale. The browser preview is not a print preview.

What PrintMesh does in this workflow

PrintMesh turns one image into a 3D mesh, lets you preview GLB, and exports OBJ or STL from that same generation. OBJ and STL are converted from the GLB. Free downloads include a watermark. Paid plans download without a watermark.

PrintMesh does not slice the model or send jobs to your printer. Before you print, check the mesh.
